Anyone know about Bird of Paradise Plants??

I purchased 2 Bird of Paradise Plants last year. I had them out in the garden last Summer and brought them indoors when it got colder, which is where they are now. Unfortunately, they havent grown at all really except for the odd shoot, a few of the leaves have turned brown and definately no sign of flowering. Any tips on what I am doing wrong??

Anyone know about Bird of Paradise Plants??
The stretlizia regina, bird of paradise,is native to South Africa accustomed to hot,dry and sunny conditions. If exposed to temperatures below 45degrees F,it will be chilled, which seems to have happened in this case.

Repotting in a moderately rich compost, keeping moist without overwatering and in a sunny warm position indoors may help. Good luck!
Reply:Place in sunlight and when weather is cold keep indoors.
Reply:Hi,

You%26#039;re not doing anything wrong the thing about my favorite flower - the Bird of Paradise is that it can take 4 or more years to flower. Keep slightly rootbound and reduce watering in winter.
Reply:Your plants won%26#039;t bloom for three to five years after transplanting them. They don%26#039;t like being moved from where they have rooted. The brown shoots just shows it rejecting the move, and will grow new ones come spring. But no flowers from three to five years. They grow slow,so even one odd shoot is a good sign. Find the place where you are going to put them permanently very carefully, because like I said, they don%26#039;t like move! Byee
Reply:Sandy is right, they don%26#039;t like to be moved around and they will start their flowers in about 4 to 5 years..but being tropical plants they need full sun and no cold draft. If they are lacking light they go dormant.. hope you fertilize them on a regular basis and hopefully in no time you%26#039;ll be able to put them back outside. Good Luck!
Reply:They do have a dormant period. Make sure you are giving the most light possible while it is indoors. You didn%26#039;t say which zone you are in? It is hardy in zones 9-11. Reduce the watering in the winter for potted plants. It%26#039;s native to S Africa and they like an acid soil and fertilize according to the label.
Reply:This plant need sunlight, and outdoor plant, leaves turned brown getting dried and died if no sunlight
