I have the kodak z612 it has a 12x zoom, I wanted to purchase a telephoto lens, Kodak only list one, that is 1.4x. I%26#039;m clueless about this, will that then make my zoom a 13.4X or how does the whole zoom thing work. I want to be able to zoom into distance photos but also take close ups like dew dripping from flower type photos.

z612 has a 35-420mm (35mm equiv) zoom lens. The 1.4x extender will make the long end to 588mm. You may be able to use this extender while the zoom is set to the long end. You may suffer from some degradation of image quality.
