[hope so]

Just purchased a %26quot;BUTTERFLY BUSH%26quot;~does it GROW FAST???
Provided you have the plant in an open area with room to grow it is a tremendous planting. Prune only those growths that reach the ground. In the early fall prune to reduce insects by elimininating any foliage from ground level to about six inches from ground level.

This plant will grow with amazing vigor and spread. It is intended to be a specimen or non-foundation planting. It needs room to grow and survive. Two or three, if you have the space, make a wonderful display in mid to late summer.

Planted with a background (the three) with two white pines,

or interplanted with Redtwig Dogwoods (these in the back) will give you what you want.

Keep the planting as far away from your home to both accomodate and attract the butterfly. Prune only after the flowers have begun to wilt. This is generally late summer.

A hard pruning, half removal, is recommended each third year. You do this in Late Fall and remove all dead wood and shape the plant to belong to your garden.

If you wish to have this plant in a small or planter type garden, you have spent unwisely. This will attract both the butterfly and bees. One is wanted, the other, kind of a problem.

Keep in mind there are no wrong plants just a wrong place for them. A weed is nothing more than any plant we do not want in that place. Such may be your dilema.

If the planting is away from the house and spreading allow it to grow. Feed it with a 10-10-10-and mineral granular fert every season (Early Spring /St Pats, Mothers Day, Labor Day, and Halloween.) Again, prune the flowering branches only after they have wilted in season.

Combine this plant with other similar Butterfly and find youself in amazement in the attraction. I used a combination in a backyard and found more compliments from those bushes than any of the hundred we had supplied.

Good Luck with the plant, it is hardy (taken care of well),

and will give you years of both joy and maintenance.

Reply:Yes they grow fast. I have 3 in my yard. I read recently that you should cut them down to about 24%26quot; in late winter when they are dormant and they will grow new growth in the spring. BTW, yes they attract butterflies and hummingbirds
Reply:yes it is very easy and very fast to grow you get 2 shade flowers dark and light
Reply:it takes about two weeks or so to get established, but once it does... it takes off like a weed! i%26#039;ve had mine in the ground for about a month and a half.. and it%26#039;s grown about three feet larger then it was and it%26#039;s covered in blooms! no fertilizer needed til next spring! water once (deeply) a week! enjoy the butterflies and bees! very pretty
Reply:Yea, these grow pretty fast and get a bit bushier every year. I can%26#039;t think of anything special to add. They are very easy. Just give them some sun and water and you will have a butterfly buffet. Enjoy.
