Rainbow Lorikeet Information PLEASE?

Recently I found a rianbow lorikeet on the ground near where others nest in my yard. The dog had chased it but Im not sure got to it. The lorikeet was trying to fly but couldnt actually get airborne.

How do I sex this lorikeet, and ho do I work out its age?

I have read a little about %26#039;runners%26#039;. This lorkeet could be one, but I am not sure. It has plenty of feathers except is missing that long tail feather. To me, it seems like a younger bird that possibly fell from the nest, but I have no idea about birds so I am not sure.

At the moment, it is in a large cage I had spare, and is eating and drinking by itself. I purchased some lorikeet powder stuff from the pet shop. I have also put in some yellow flower things I saw others in the yard eating, and the bird loves them.

Im keen on info, especially how to age or sex this bird.

Thanks in advance

Rainbow Lorikeet Information PLEASE?
Thought Bandit is right about this state not releasing them back into the wild %26amp; for very good reason. Rainbow lorikeets are fighting our native parrots %26amp; cockies for nesting spots every spring %26amp; autumn. This is causing our native birds to drop in breeding. Keep it going long enough %26amp; we won%26#039;t have many natives parrots or cockies left, among other reasons for the lorikeet not being wanted here:

Does the bird look young or look injured? If it%26#039;s young you may have to take it to the vet or wildlife rehab regardless as it%26#039;ll require particular food if still feeding from the parents. If it%26#039;s young you can usually see a very slight difference in it%26#039;s plumage to that of an adult.

If it%26#039;s an adult injured then you%26#039;re best to ring or call into a vet %26amp; find out what you can do. You don%26#039;t know what kind of injuries it might have %26amp; they do deteriorate very quickly.

You can%26#039;t sex rainbow lorikeets, males %26amp; females are identical. If the bird is already an adult you won%26#039;t be able to tell it%26#039;s full age either.

Can you post a clear picture of the bird?

If you have grevillea flowers anywhere in your area your lorikeet will absolutely loves these too.
Reply:The only surefire way to tell the gender of birds like lorikeets is to take it to a vet for a DNA test. I%26#039;ve got three caiques and there is NO other 100% accurate way (other than waiting a few years to see if it lays an egg).

I%26#039;d take it to an avian vet anyway, just to check for any injury that the bird%26#039;s not showing.
Reply:If you happen to be in Perth Australia these birds are considered to be a pest because they are not native to this state a rescue organization will not release them back into the wild.

If you are in the Eastern states you could take it to a wildlife rescue place and say that you found it by the side of the road, you don%26#039;t need to say anything about your dog.
Reply:The most accurate way of determining the sex of your bird is to take it in to your vet for a DNA test. The vet will also be able to give you an estimate on approximately how old the bird may be.

Here is some information on rainbow lorkieets;

Good luck!
Reply:Gosh, where do you live that you found one? Down under somewhere?

There must be exotic bird clubs/rescues nearby, wherever you are. Google it. PLEASE find a rehab for this bird and let people who are trained to care for birds take care of it. Lorikeets are really sensitive birds who require a very specific diet and care.
