Growing tulips? how to plant? timing? forced bloom?

I recently purchased some tulips for V-day and i have to say that they are now my new favorite flower.

I want to grow them in in pots for inside the house, but i want to enjoy these flowers all the time and i know nothing about tulips or growing bulbs.

Pricing? how much should i pay for bulbs?

its February how come i cant find any bulbs?

Is there a way to fool the bulbs so I can keep them planted/growing all year long?

I had a family member who would take a small vase with rocks and would place a bulb on the rocks and have water barely touching the bulb, she would keep them under the sink in the darkness at the bulbs will sprout. then she would transplant them to a potted plant. would this technique work?

Tulips can be grown any time of the year indoors if your force them. As for the price, each variety of tulips will cost differently, and overall the prices should be a few dollars each. Try searching your local hardware stores or gardening stores, that is where I get mine.

I agree with your family member with the vase and rocks, as I have done the same in the past. Make sure the the bottom of the bulb where the roots will come out is touching the water. But also keep in mind that if too much of the bulb is submerged in water it will rot. If you use this method you have to give the bulbs a false belief that it is winter. You need to put them in a cool, dark place, such as a basement, for a few weeks. Then gradually bring them into indirect sunlight. Then, a week or two later you can move them into a bright sunny location. This method will work all year long. Good luck!
Reply:To force them place a few bulbs in a pot with soil and set it in the refrigerator for about 12 weeks. Then take them out and start watering and watch them grow and bloom. They have to be cold for at least 12 weeks or they won%26#039;t bloom.

To plant them outside, plant them in the fall. They will come up every spring and bloom.
