Starting landscaper tips?

Just purchased our home and want to do some landscaping around the house. The area we are planning to mulch is not very wide or long, roughly about 20 feet long by 3 feet wide. There are some plants and flowers there but we want to start over. After digging up all the weeds, plants, and flowers we don%26#039;t want, what should we do next? What we want in the end is a border with mulch inside and a few flowers and plants around the house. After ripping all the old plants, flowers, weeds up, should we spary anything? Also should we put top soil down? When planting, should we do so first and allow to grow before applying our mulch? These are probably basic questions but this is our first home and overall we aren%26#039;t to familar with landscaping. Any tips and advice will help a ton..............Thanks

Starting landscaper tips?
Ok first thing first is if you are going to do landscaping yourself, get a tetanus shot or at least make sure your up to date. Next, in order to pick your arrangements, you need to know what will grow in your region and whether the soil currently in your bed is appropriate for what you want to plant. Then comes the part of WHAT you want to plant.
Reply:When you are trying to landscape a new place your bet plan is to wait a year. Watch what grows and what doesn%26#039;t, where the sun hits and doesn%26#039;t and keep track of it all for a year. It will save you hundreds of dollars and many headaches along the way. Don%26#039;t remove anything until you see if things rehydrate over the course of the year. There is much debate about using mulch at all. It allows critters to have a nice little place to live while they munch on your garden. You%26#039;re better off planning some ground covers between flower plantings.

Get familiar with what does well in your neighborhood and everything you can about your zone and climate issues. Do some soil tests all around your yard. Again it will save you tons of time and money.
