Can you please help me identify this object?

I purchased this item, and have no idea what it is! (all I know is i like it!)

If anyone can help identify it, I would be grateful!

It%26#039;s 4cm wide

3.5cm high

2.5cm deep

It%26#039;s made of chain mesh

It has solid sides with ferns and flowers

it%26#039;s quite heavy

Unknown age

Unknown metals.... (possibly brass safety chain)

the pocket clip is very shiny but i don%26#039;t think it%26#039;s silver

the main chain is brassy, but less brassy than the safety chain.

i think there are 5 different metals used

The safety chain has an unusual pin with a loop in the centre to keep the chain centralized and neat while wearing it.

The clasp on the front opens forward and the bag opens.

I can%26#039;t find any hallmark or makers marks anywhere on it.

The best idea I%26#039;ve been able to come up with so far, is that it%26#039;s some sort of old %26quot;personal pomander%26quot; type thing?

Any ideas what it is?

Thanks in advance!

im not sure what a pomander is, but to me it looks like it can be some sort of charm that you can put on a charm bracelet?
Reply:It looks like a broach because of the safety pin. But it looks like it hands on a chain around the neck too. so the safety pin is to keep it fastened to a piece of clothing. Looks antique to me.
Reply:Looks llike some kind of pocketbook. The explanation for the safety pin is that it might have been used to keep it attached to the wearer in the attempt of a robbery.
Reply:It looks like a sweater clip. Ladies used to clip them to their sweaters in front to hold them together. Very cool item!
Reply:I would say a tobacco pouch. Old pipe tobacco would not be small enough to fall through the mesh.
Reply:To me, it looks like it would be a piece of jewelry an individual might wear. If so, then the little mesh part that opens might possibly be a small pill box/carrier. You know, if you%26#039;re going out but must take medication while you%26#039;re out, you could place a pill in there so you not forget.

It%26#039;s cute, whatever it is.
Reply:All i could think of is some type of jewlry, like a pin or necklace. But, why did you buy it if you didn%26#039;t know what it was?
Reply:If I had to guess, it looks like a very ornate %26#039;snuff box%26#039;. By the looks of it, a woman would probably wear it. If it%26#039;s old enough, (1600-1800%26#039;s), anyone could have worn it. I%26#039;m going to look for this on Antiques Roadshow, %26#039;cause that%26#039;s where I%26#039;d take it!
Reply:looks like a tie clip
Reply:It looks to me very old. I would suggest taking it on the %26quot;Antiques Roadshow%26quot;. It has a asian look to it, the dragon face, maybe meaning to protect whatever is inside. I would think it is a pocketbook of sorts. I would think to hold the gold or whatever was the currency at that time.
